Orange Blossom and Wildflower Honey Available!

This past weekend we harvested our first batch of raw honey for the year, with two different kinds available - Orange Blossom and Spring Wildflower. You may be wondering how bees “make” different kinds of honey… the blend and flavors of pure raw honey all depends on the types of flowers the bees are pollinating.

During the spring this year, we had our bee hives in two different locations so that we would be able to have two kinds of spring honey. Ten of our hives were at our main yard in northeast Clovis where there was an abundance of spring wildflowers, predominantly Mustard wildflowers which you may recall seeing the yellow and white wildflowers scattered throughout our area in March and April, especially in Clovis and the foothills. These wildflowers make an excellent honey, and they are a great source of nutrition for our bees.

Our 10 other hives were near a grove of citrus trees in east Clovis during citrus bloom, which came quite a bit early this year in mid-March though mid-April. Blooming citrus flowers provide an abundant source of nectar, which is what bees use to make honey, lots of it! We were blessed to get a good harvest this year from the citrus bloom (we call it “Orange Blossom” honey since that’s kind of the norm for honey lingo, but really it is honey made from a variety of citrus tree blossoms, including navel orange and mandarin trees.)
You can find both kinds of raw honey at The Collective 103 in Old Town Clovis beginning this Friday.
